20 Years Of Gadar: Sunny Deol Thanks The Audience; Says ‘We Made A Film, You Made It An Event’
Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which released on June 15, 2001, clocks 20 years today. The film was set during the Partition of India, in 1947, and stars Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in the lead roles. Sunny Deol plays the role of Tara Singh, a truck driver, who falls in love with a Muslim Pakistani girl Sakina, played by Ameesha Patel. The film was a blockbuster hit, and at that time, it had become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time, breaking the record of Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

As Gadar: Ek Prem Katha completes 20 years today, Sunny Deol posts a note on Instagram expressing his gratitude to the audience. He shared a still from the movie, featuring himself and Ameesha Patel, and thanked the audience for making it an event. “We made a film, you made it an event! #20yearsofGadar, I express my gratitude to everyone who made our film historic.

The song Musaafir Jaane Wale from Gadar played in the background. Apart from the film, its soundtrack was also a huge hit back then, and it included songs such as ‘Udja Kale Kawaan,’ ‘Main Nikla Gaddi Leke’, ‘Aan Milo Sajna’, and others, that are remembered even today. Composed by Uttam Singh, the songs were written by Anand Bakshi.


Apart from Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha also featured Amrish Puri, Vivek Shauq, Lillette Dubey, director Anil Sharma’s son Utkarsh Sharma and others.
