3 Idiots Actor Omi Vaidya Urges Support For Sonam Wangchuk As Activist's Health Deteriorates During Hunger Strike

Actor Omi Vaidya, best known for playing Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots, has voiced his concern for environmentalist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk as the latter's health reportedly continues to worsen during his ongoing hunger strike.

Taking to social media, Omi made an emotional appeal, referring to Wangchuk as the "real-life Phunsukh Wangdu"—the character from 3 Idiots inspired by the activist. Sharing his concern, the actor urged people not to remain silent while Wangchuk battles declining health.

"I don't want Phunsukh Wangdu to die. Please don't let him die," Omi wrote, calling on people to stand by Wangchuk during this difficult phase. His heartfelt message has struck a chord with fans, many of whom praised the actor for speaking up.

Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, is protesting over issues related to environmental protection and public concerns. Reports claim his health has deteriorated significantly after more than two weeks without food, with his blood sugar levels dropping and his weight decreasing by over 8 kg, raising serious concerns among supporters and medical observers.

Sonam Wangchuk has long been recognised for his work in sustainable education and environmental innovation. His life famously inspired Aamir Khan's character Phunsukh Wangdu in Rajkumar Hirani's blockbuster 3 Idiots, making him a widely respected figure across the country.
