Ace filmmaker Karan Johar has shown his patriotic side and love for the country by bankrolling blockbuster movies like Alia Bhatt's Raazi, Akshay Kumar’s Kesari, Janhvi Kapoor's Gunjan Saxena, and the recently released, Shershaah. Following the stupendous success of these movies, KJo had recently announced that he will be producing a movie based on the life of C Sankaran Nair, who fought a legendary courtroom battle to uncover the truth about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. And, it seems like Karan has another patriotic film in his kitty.
As per the latest report in Pinkvilla, Karan’s production house Dharma is developing a script on the life of a freedom fighter Usha Mehta. A source close to the development told the web portal, “Usha Mehta ran an underground pirate radio called Congress Radio during the Quit India Movement and gave tough time to the British Government. Post-Independence, she was conferred with Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India. It’s a heroic story of an unsung hero and the creative team at Dharma has been working on this script for a while now.”
An insider also revealed that “this one is in the space of Raazi, with ample thrills and drama, and a top A-list actress is expected to come on board to play the titular role. The casting and pre-production are currently underway." The report also says that the forthcoming biopic will be helmed by Kannan Iyer, who is also writing the script with Darab Farooqui.
It is further said that the script will be based on the play, 'Khar Khar', written by Amatya Goradia and Pritesh Sodha.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar is currently seen hosting the popular reality show Bigg Boss OTT. Apart from this, he is also returning to direction after 5 years with 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani', which stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.
