After RK Studios, Mumbai's Kamalistan To Be Converted Into Commercial Property
Earlier, SpotBoyE.com had reported that Godrej Properties has bought RK Studios converting it into a real estate project, like a residential complex. The iconic R.K. Studios, an important part of Bollywood lore and headquarters of Raj Kapoor’s film production company R.K. Films since 1948, was dismantled for luxury apartments. After the demolishment of the iconic set, another iconic set will now be converted for commercial use.

According to the reports, Kamal Amrohi Studio aka Kamalistan Studio which has produced many Hindi blockbusters will now make way for a corporate park as realty players DB Realty and Bengaluru-based RMZ Corp RPT RMZ Corp have agreed to jointly develop the 15-acre land into the country’s largest corporate office park.

It is stated, DB Realty said Mahal Pictures--the production house of Kamalistan--has entered into an in-principle understanding with RMZ Group to sell and develop a part of the land, along with the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, into one of the largest corporate office parks. The reports also state that the process of making the project is Rs. 21 crores, offering over around 7 million sq ft of office space.

The six-decade-old studio was founded by the late filmmaker and screenwriter Kamal Amrohi in 1958, the Bollywood landmark backed many hits such as Mahal (1949), Pakeezah (1972) and Razia Sultan (1983), Amar Akbar Anthony and Kaalia were also shot at the same studio.
