And this time, the actor will be seen playing an Indian Air Force Wing Commander, Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, in his next, which is titled as Bhuj: The Pride Of India.

Directed and written by Abhishek Dhudhaiya, the film will be made under two banners- T-Series and Select Media Holdings LLP. Bhuj: The Pride Of India is based on true incidents and is touted to be one of India’s most fascinating war stories. Ajay will portray the role of Karnik, who was the incharge of Bhuj airport in Gujarat during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.

Confirming the news to Bombay Times, Bhushan Kumar said, “This courageous tale needs to be told because we want the current and the coming generation to know about this brave soldier, Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who played a significant role in India’s victory in the 1971 war. He was heroic enough to take this bold step of involving civilians in a war. Also, who better than Ajay Devgn for the role of Vijay Karnik? We are working with him currently in De De Pyaar De and Taanaji, and we are glad that he is on board for this film, too.”

While producer Ginny Khanuja, from Select Media Holdings LLP, told the leading daily, “This had never happened before, and Mr Karnik made history by achieving this feat. I feel blessed to announce that we are going to bring the tale of this real hero on celluloid.”

Taking to social media, Bhushan Kumar welcomed Ajay Devgn on board and said, “Collaborating with @ajaydevgn once again, for #BhujThePrideOfIndia, based on  Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik. The film will be directed by #AbhishekDudhaiya @TSeries #KrishanKumar #SelectMediaHoldingsLLP #GinnyKhanuja @vajir”

Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik shared a few details about the incident and told BT, “We were fighting a war and if there had been any casualties of any of these women, it would have been a great loss. But I took the decision and it worked out. I had briefed them where they could take shelter if attacked and they followed it bravely. Also, I could only see Ajay Devgn essaying my character and I’m glad that he’s on board.”
