Akshay Kumar Becomes An Indian Citizen On Independence Day; Says 'Dil Aur Citizenship Dono Hindustani'-DETAILS INSIDE

Social media trolls can finally take a break from criticising Akshay Kumar for having Canadian citizenship. On the occasion of Independence day, the actor revealed that he got his Indian citizenship while renouncing his Canadian passport. The actor shared the landmark development with his fans through social media handles.
Sharing a picture of a document with his name as Akshay Hariom Bhatia, Akshay Kumar penned a note of gratitude which read as: “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind."
Akki planned his move towards Canada in the 90s following 15 consecutive flops. The actor, who was dejected by the failure applied for Canadian citizenship. However, the issue resurfaced, when the actor couldn’t cast his vote, owing to his Canadian citizenship, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and faced a lot of criticism over the same. In 2019, Akshay promised to apply for an Indian passport.
In a previous interaction with Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, Akshay addressed the debate over his Canadian citizenship and said: “Having a Canadian passport does not mean I am any less of an Indian. I am very much Indian. I have been here since last nine years when I got the passport. And I don't want to get into the reason of why, what happened, my films were not working, blah blah blah, chalo woh theek hai.”
At the same summit, Akshay also revealed the delay in his Indian passport and blamed the pandemic for the same. He said, “Yes, I had said it in 2019, I applied for it. Then uske baad pandemic aagaya. Uske 2-2.5 saal sab kuch band hogaya. Renounce ka abhi mera letter aagaya hai and very soon my whole passport will be coming. Main kya karu, maine thodi pandemic laya hai.”
Today, Akshay Kumar has emerged as one of the most bankable stars in Bollywood and he has shelled out some of the most interesting films over the years. Recently, he was seen in OMG 2 and it has garnered a lot of positive reviews at the box office.
Apart from OMG 2, Akshay Kumar will also be seen in the action thriller, Bade Miya Chote Miyan and in the fifth instalment of the hit comedy film, Housefull.
