Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi’s latest outing ‘Selfiee’ hit the theatres on February 24, 2023. It’s been merely 3 days since the film was released and yet the conditions do not seem to be favourable for the makers and the cast. Despite its hype, the film failed to impress the fans and critics equally and it mercilessly tanked at the box office. The latest collection records have also sparked memefest on Twitter and netizens have been going berserk over the viral memes and jokes.


Directed by Raj Mehta, Selfiee is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Driving License. The film features Akshay Kumar as the film star whereas Emraan plays the role of police officer in this film. Following its failure, netizens couldn’t help but mock the film and a slew of memes related to the film have gone viral on Twitter. 








The recent box office crash comes as a great horror for the industry as many producers and film stars are still reeling from the boycotts and anti-Bollywood social media campaigns on a range of issues - from nepotism to allegations of hurting religious sentiments - have also hurt the industry's performance. The industry has been struggling to make a comeback following the two washout years of the pandemic. 

Recently, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan broke all box-office records and was hailed as the ‘saviour of Bollywood’, however, the latest failures including Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee has seemingly brought the industry to square one. However, fans are quite excited following the announcement of the latest instalment in Hera Pheri franchise, and while the film stars the OG trio, Akshay Kumar fans have high hopes owing to his performance in previous films.
