Akshay Kumar On Atrangi Re's Release: ‘Still Mulling Over Whether It Should Be Theatrical Or Direct OTT’
Akshay Kumar gives an update about the release of his upcoming project Atrangi Re, which also stars Sara Ali Khan.
Akshay Kumar has announced the theatrical release dates of his five upcoming films- Sooryavanshi, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, RakshaBandhan and Ram Setu. However, there had been no update on his project Atrangi Re, which is ready to release. But now, in an interview, the actor has said that the team is still "mulling over" whether Aanand L Rai’s directorial should be released in theatres or on an OTT platform.
While speaking with HT City, Akshay Kumar said, “To be honest, I haven’t yet included Atrangi Re in the list because we are still mulling over whether it should be a theatrical film or an OTT release. And OTT may simply be the medium of choice for Atrangi Re, as it looks right now.”
Speaking about the movie, Akshay mentioned that Atrangi Re has a fantastic, never-heard-before subject and story line. “For me and Aanand L Rai, it is critical that the most suited platform is chosen for the film, I am as much for OTT as for theatres. What’s best for the film should decide the medium of release,” he added.
Akshay had announced the release dates of his forthcoming projects via posts on social media accounts. While unveiling Sooryavanshi’s release date, Akshay also expressed his gratitude towards Uddhav Thackeray for allowing the cinema halls to reopen.
He had written, “So many families would be thanking Sh Uddhav Thackeray today! Grateful for allowing the reopening of cinema halls in Maharashtra from Oct 22. Ab kisi ke roke na rukegi - AA RAHI HAI POLICE #Sooryavanshi #Diwali2021.”
While Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif’s Sooryavanshi is all set to release this Diwali, his ‘Ram Setu’ will release during Diwali next year. Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer Bachchan Pandey also got a new release date. The film will now hit theatres on March 4, 2022.
