Akshay Kumar has become filmmakers’ first choice for their movies, but it was not the case with one of his superhit films, Airlift. Producer of Airlift, Nikkhil Advani told Film Companion that it was late actor Irrfan Khan who was the first choice for the makers. But it was Akshay Kumar who expressed his wish to star in Airlift. The filmmaker recalling a meeting with the actor shared he had met the actor to offer him another film. However, he was interested in Airlift.
But he asked Nikkhil Advani what else he was working on when he revealed working on Airlift, and the actor showed his keen interest in it. Nikkhil said, “I once went to narrate a film to Akshay and he immediately said, ‘No this is not for me’. He asked what else I was working on. I said there is this other film that I’m not directing. A director called Raja Menon will make it, it’s based on a real story. It was Airlift. Next morning he said, why won’t you offer this to me.”
Nikkhil added, “I said because you’ll never do it. There’s no song, the director’s earlier film was Barah Aana… the numbers just don’t add up. Also Raja wants Irrfan for this part. He said can you please speak to him, I really want to do this.” Ultimately Akshay Kumar landed the lead role in the movie and left everyone impressed.
