Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and SS Rajamouli’s period drama RRR are the most highly anticipated movies releasing next year. Both Alia Bhatt starrer will be locking horns at Box Office, becoming the biggest clash of the year. While Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is slated to hit theatres on January 6, 2022, RRR in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu will release a day later, on January 7. Both the filmmakers have now opened up about this impending clash and asserted that it won’t hamper the business.
Bollywood Hungama quoted Sanjay Leela Bhansali as saying, “We announced our date long before the other film.” Rajamouli, on the other, said he feels there is room for two films during the same week.
“The clash won’t hamper the business. Even if four films come together, if they are good, people are going to come to watch all of them. There have been multiple instances in the past when this has happened,” Rajamouli added. The Baahubali filmmaker also blamed Covid 19 pandemic for the bottleneck of releases. He said, “This is the time for all of us to come together and say, think and feel that all films should make money.”
As per several reports, Gangubai Kathiawadi will be released on January 6 all over the world because number 6 is considered lucky by Bhansali and Alia Bhatt. A source close to the filmmaker was quoted saying, “Sanjay’s birth date is 24 February, that is number 4 and 2 adding up to 6. Alia’s birth date 15 March also adds up to number 6.”
On a related note, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is said to be based on a true story on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi. It will also star Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi in cameo appearances.
