Ambani Brothers-Mukesh And Anil Keen To Develop Film City Into A Mega-Tourist Attraction

Soon, you could see the Goregaon Film City transformed into a mega tourist attraction as the Ambani brothers- Mukesh and Anil are interested in developing it into a mega tourist spot, on the lines of Universal Studios in Los Angeles, states a Mirror report. The cost of the project is a whopping Rs 2600 crore and until now, three entities including the Ambanis are in the fray. The third firm is the Bhanot Infra Venture (BIV).
In the month of December, representatives of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited, Anil Ambani’s Reliance Big Entertainment and BIV attended a pre-bidding meeting. The final date of bidding for the project is February 28. Film City’s managing director, Jayashree Bhoj confirmed the participation of the three companies in the pre-bidding phase. He said, “They have shown interest, sending us some queries about the project. The project clearing committee headed by the chief state secretary then held a meeting and approved some of the questions and made changes in the draft,” Bhoj said. “Once the bids are submitted, we will assess technical qualification and financial eligibility (of the companies) before awarding the project. It will take four to six months to award the project.”

A global tender for the Film City revamp was floated by the State in July 2018. Currently, the 521-acre area contains some studios, one of which is owned by an Anil Ambani firm. The government aims on converting it into a world-class tourist complex with theme parks, food courts, a five-star hotel, dormitories, a museum and an amphitheatre, apart from 8 village locations, 42 outdoor locations, post-production facilities and film training institutes.

According to Mirror, Reliance Industries Limited has clarified that SRA shouldn’t be included in the revamp and the total cost. The company has even taken permissions from environment ministry, the traffic police and the civil aviation ministry. Reliance Big Entertainment has asked for information around the rehabilitation of tribal hamlets in the area and also enquired if it can bring in an alternative power supply company. The company has asked whether the successful bidder’s operations at Film City will be covered under the Right to Information Act.
