Anupam Kher Replaces Gajendra Chauhan As FTII’s New Chairman

Anupam Kher has been appointed as chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), replacing Gajendra Chauhan. The FTII students had been on strike for months and refused to attend classes unless Gajendra was removed from his position. His turbulent tenure ended in March this year.

Anupam Kher expressed happiness and gratitude for his appointment to the prestigious position on Twitter. “I feel deeply humbled & honoured to be apportioned as the Chairman of iconic #FTII. I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities,” he wrote. 🙏

The 62-year-old critically acclaimed actor has over 500 films and plays to his credit, including international projects like Bend It Life Beckham and Silver Linings Playbook. He has headed the censor board and the National School of Drama in the past. The national award winner is also an alumnus of the elite drama school.

Speaking about his appointment to a section of the media he said, “Important day, it seldom happens that you become chairman of the place where you were once a student.”

Anupam Kher is a recipient of two National Awards and is married to actress and BJP MP Kirron Kher.
