Anurag Kashyap Counters Payal Ghosh's #MeToo Allegations; Says He Was Shooting In Sri Lanka On The Dates Mentioned By The Actress
Anurag Kashyap’s lawyer Priyanka Khimani released a statement on her client’s behalf, today, claiming that the complaint made by Payal Ghosh is nothing but a lie. This all began when Payal Ghosh accused Kashyap of sexual harassment on social media and levelled #MeToo allegations against him. The filmmaker had vehemently denied the allegations by Payal Ghosh earlier, and now, he has also defended himself. In the statement released by Kashyap’s lawyer, he opposed Ghosh’s claims stating he was not in the country back then.

An excerpt from the statement released by Kashyap’s lawyer Priyanka Khimani read, “The material provided by Mr. Kashyap, in support of his statement, demonstrates that the complaint of Ms. Ghosh is an outright lie. Mr. Kashyap has provided documentary proof of the fact that throughout August, 2013 he was away in Sri Lanka in connection with the shooting of one of his films. Mr. Kashyap has categorically denied that any such alleged incident ever took place and has also denied all allegations levelled against him.”

In the statement released by Anurag Kashyap’s lawyer, he countered the period mentioned in the FIR (August 2013), and stated that he was shooting for on one of his projects in Sri Lanka back then. Priyanka Khimani added, “Mr. Kashyap is confident that the falsity of the complaint has been exposed, not only by the evidence presented by Mr. Kashyap, but also the ever-shifting version of events put forth by Ms. Ghosh in the media. Mr. Kashyap is apprehensive that now that the falsity of her allegations in the FIR have been established, she will alter her version of events in the investigative process as well.”

Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap was shooting for the 2015 film Bombay Velvet, in Sri Lanka. In connection to the FIR filed by Payal Ghosh, the Dev D director was questioned by the Mumbai police on October 1. After almost 8 hours of interrogation, Kashyap was clicked leaving Versova Police station. Since sexual misconduct allegations have been levelled against Anurag Kashyap, his ex-wives Aarti Bajaj and Kalki Koechlin, and other Bollywood actresses extended their support to the filmmaker.
