The unfortunate outbreak of Coronavirus has made the world come to a standstill. Speaking about India, cases are shooting up with each passing day affecting the trade and business. In the last 4 months, according to the Ministry Of Statistics, the economy dropped to 3.1%. Similarly, advertisement volume on TV too has drastically dropped. From April to June 2020 the advertising volumes on Television for celebrity-endorsed advertisement has dropped by almost 39% which is quite huge as compared to the January-March, 2020. This Celebrity Endorsement report is generated by TAM Adex for the period January to June 2020.
As per the reports for the first quarter of 2020 – Jan, Feb and March – celebrity endorsement was about 24% whereas 76% was by non-celebrity ads. But to everyone’s attention, the 2nd quarter of 2020 – April, May and June – the celebrity ads saw a drop of 21% and remaining are the non- celebrity ads. As per the comparative graph, film actresses topped the graph considering celebrity endorsement ads. And now considering the on-going pandemic, personal care and hygiene sector is topping the list in celebrity endorsement ads.
Toilet soaps – endorsement ads are topping the list with 12% share on Ad volume. As per the TAM report, Virat Kohli is the only celebrity who is more visible in ads with an average visibility of 10 hrs per day across all TV channel followed by Akshay Kumar with 9 hrs and Kareena Kapoor Khan with 8 hrs respectively. In totality, Anushka and Virat Kohli are topping the list as they share 26% of Ad volume with 16 brands to their kitty.
