Bharat Ratna Continues To Elude Dilip Kumar
Dilip Kumar finds himself missing from the prestigious list of those felicitated by the Bharat Ratna, the nation's highest civilian award. Satyajit Ray and Lata Mangeshkar are among the film legends, who have been bestowed with the Bharat Ratna in the past.

An intense campaign from his legion of admirers has been on since years for India's thespian to be honoured with the Bharat Ratna.

Over time, the Central Government has ignored the ongoing campaign on public platforms as well as social media.

To coincide with Kumar's 93rd birthday today, it was announced that the Padma Vibhushan, the nation's second highest civilian honour, will be presented to him at his home in Pali Hill, Bandra on Sunday by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The ailing thespian has been in no condition to travel to Delhi.

Meanwhile, Kumar and his wife Saira Banu while receiving wishes and bouquets from the film industry and fans, have stated that they will not be celebrating the birthday in the light of the devastation caused by the floods in Chennai.

Unbeknownst to many, Kumar was also bestowed with the National Kishore Kumar Award for Lifetime Achievement - carrying a purse of Rs. 2 lakh -- decided by the Madhya Pradesh government this year in October. The ailing actor couldn't make it to the award presentation in Khandwa.

The MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was to fly down to Mumbai and hand over the award personally but sources indicate that there was lack of communication. Representatives of the state government had difficulties getting in touch with the thespian's wife.

Whenever a convenient date is determined, the National Kishore Kumar Award will also be presented to the veteran actor at his home.
