CAA Protest: Naseeruddin Shah Lauds Deepika Padukone, Calls Anupam Kher A Clown And Mocks PM Modi's Degree
The protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and NRC called for a nationwide debate. With the country divided into two, a big debate has started on social media discussing the pros and cons of CAA and NRC. Not many citizens are in favor of the new act. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah definitely is not in support of the Government and the new act that has been passed. In the latest interview, Naseeruddin Shah has openly bashed the Government for implementing CAA and has even questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's educational qualification.

In an interview with The Wire, Naseeruddin Shah has expressed his thoughts without mincing words. He has lauded Deepika Padukone for visiting JNU post the violent attack on students and has even called his contemporary Anupam Kher a clown. Talking about Deepika, Naseeruddin Shah said, "It’s understandable why the established figures of the industry don’t speak up. However, one wonders how much do they have to lose? Will it kill you? You have to laud the courage of a girl like Deepika (Padukone), who is at the top and yet takes a step like this." He then went on to speak about Anupam Kher who is active on Twitter as he often shares his point of view on issues concerning nation on the micro-blogging site. The veteran actor said, "I am not on Twitter. These people, the Twitterati, and I really wish they would make up their minds in what they believe in. Someone like Anupam Kher has been very vocal. I don't think, he needs to be taken seriously, he is a clown, any number of his contemporaries from NSD, NFTII can test to his psychopathic nature, it is in his blood, he can't help it. The others who are opposing it should really decide about what they want to say and don't remind us of our responsibilities, we known our responsibilities."

Further talking about how angry he is as a citizen of this country who has lived in India for 70 years, Naseeruddin Shah mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's educational qualifications and addressed violence against students. "There is a video clip of him saying, before he became prime minister, that he has never studied. Which is considered a charming and candid statement at that time but in the light of all that has happened in the last six years, it has acquired eerie proportions. And then, of course, this was before he got his doctorate in political science, which, like Anurag [Kashyap], I would also be very interested in having a look at. So having never been one of this community who feels responsible for the country they are going to grow up in, how can you expect any empathy for the students from them?" he said.
