Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan made her highly-awaited Cannes debut in an exquisite ivory-colored lehenga designed by popular couturiers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The actress celebrated India with her outfit featuring a veil over her head at the opening ceremony of the 76th Cannes Film Festival. Sara looked confident and posed for the shutterbugs like a pro. While fans loved her desi avatar at the international film festival, several netizens mocked Sara for her choice of outfit and started trolling her.
In the photos that have gone viral, Sara could be seen posing on the red carpet. She completed her look with statement earrings and opted for subtle makeup. Talking to Brut India, the Simmba actress expressed her excitement and said she aspired to be at Cannes someday and now when she is here it seems like a dream. When asked how she is feeling, Sara shared, “Nervous, I've always aspired to be here someday, and I can't believe I'm here.”
Further giving an insight about her look, she added, “It's traditional and modern Indian handmade design by Abu and Sandeep (Khosla). I've always been proud of my Indianess. However, a certain section of people was not impressed with Sara’s fashion choice and started trolling her. One Insta user commented, “disaster ….she could have gone not with 10 times better stylist but 100 times better … her first appearance at cannes not bhaiyas engagement yar.” Another wrote, “Nepo Baby privileges, fast track to Cannes.”Of the trolls said, “What has she done to be at cannes? Height of nepotism.”
Apart from Sara, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Anushka Sharma, 2017 Miss World Manushi Chhillar, and Esha Gupta among other celebs will be attending the prestigious film festival. The international film festival kickstarted in France on May 16 and will conclude on May 27, 2023.
