Deepika Padukone’s Co-Star Lauds Her JNU Visit; ‘I'm Very Proud Of Her For What She Did’
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone returned to the big screen after two years with filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s film Chhapaak based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Before the release of film Chhapaak, Deepika went to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi and stood in solidarity with the students of the university who were attacked. While Deepika’s show of solidarity at JNU was criticised by many, her co-star reacts to the same and reveals he is very proud of her for how she extended her support.

Speaking with Bollywood Hungama, Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak co-star Vikrant Massey opened up about the incident recently. When questioned about how the team reacted to the producer and lead actresses’ decision of going to JNU and the severe backlash, Vikrant said, “I really don't want to speak on behalf of anyone because this is somewhat sensitive. What I individually thought then as a co-star, as an artist, as someone whose film was up for release, it was entirely her call.”

Talking about the incident and Deepika decision of standing in solidarity with the students, Massey said, “As a friend, as a well-wisher, who looks up to her in a lot of ways, I am very proud of her for what she did because we were all speaking the same language.” The Chhapaak actor shared that as a friend, a well-wisher, who looks up for Deepika, he mentioned that he is very proud of her for what she did. The actor explained that he is proud of his Chhapaak co-star as everyone is speaking the same language.

Meanwhile, as Vikrant Massey broke his silence on Deepika Padukone’s show of solidarity at JNU, for the unversed, the film Chhapaak as well as the actress received severe backlash. After Deepika’s visit to JNU, many criticised the decision of the actress as a promotional stunt to promote the film, whereas on the other hand, #BoycottChhapaak trends hit social media.
