Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga Transwomen Writer Gazal Dhaliwal Breaks Her Silence, Finally
Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla’s upcoming film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is all set to theatres day after tomorrow. The film is rumoured to revolve around Sonam’s lesbian affair, an alliance Anil (who plays Sonam’s father) strongly opposes. But did you know, the film’s screenwriter is a transwoman, Gazal Dhaliwal?

Gazal Dhaliwal has used her life experiences to pen the story of the project. The writer was just 5-year-old when she realised that she wasn’t comfortable in her body. Once when her mother stepped out, she sneaked into her room and tried her dupattas, twirling and posing in them.

Later, at the age of 30, Dhaliwal opted for a sex reassignment surgery in 2007 and rest is history. Speaking to Arre.com Gazal shared experience and said, “I’ve been working in Bollywood and writing scripts since 2009, but it took an inordinately long time for my work to start coming out, because neither did I know anyone in the industry nor am I good at networking or marketing myself. No one knew what I had done because none of the films I’d worked on had released, so Alankrita (Shrivastava, director of Lipstick Under My Burkha) sent me two sample scenes and suggested I write the dialogues for those scenes before they decided to hire me.”
