Ekta, Karan, Sajid Form Friends Group
In what could be called a landmark in Bollywood's recent history, leading producers like Sajid Nadiadwala, Ekta Kapoor, Karan Johar and Siddharth Roy Kapur are gearing up to form a forum of sorts, which is currently called Friends Group.

The idea stems from a consortium called United Producers, that existed in Bollywood back in 60s and 70s.

The group, that featured eminent filmmakers, producers, directors and distributors, produced nearly 50 films. The most active members of the group were B R Chopra, Subodh Mukherjee, GP Sippy, Nasir Hussain, H S Rawail, Shakti Samanta and FC Mehra. They had introduced Rajesh Khanna together, which was an achievement since he became the first superstar of Bollywood.

History is ready to repeat itself.

The new forum that is currently under construction will involve nearly every big producer, director, distributor, audio giant, exhibitor, and entertainment wizard in the business. After seeing massive losses over the last two years, this probably could be a healthy solution for those who desire it in the industry.

"The money, work, IPs and every other aspect is a lot bigger than before and also a lot more complicated. So, it will take some time for the group to be officially formed. The idea is to venture into entertainment software production and also launch talent. It's all in the nascent stages. Meetings, discussions and brainstorming sessions have been happening for a few months now. This had started off on a very unofficial, friendly note--- but is now on its way to engineer a much-needed change," says a well-placed industry source in the know of the Friends Group.
