Fake Social Media Followers Scam: Rapper Badshah Summoned By Mumbai Police; Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra Likely To Be Called
Bollywood actors Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have been named amongst the top 10 celebrities to have fake followers/ bots. Last month, the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) busted a racket being run where fake followers, re-tweets, likes and other things were being bought by celebrities in violation of the Information Technology Act following which with the help of Social media experts the case probe was initiated by the CIU. The racket came into notice after Bollywood singer Bhoomi Trivedi filed a complaint against an imposter who said he manages her social media accounts.

As per the latest development, rapper Badshah has been summoned by the Mumbai Police to record his statement in connection with the fake social media scam. As per the latest report in India Today, Baadshah's Instagram account that goes by @badboyshah name figured in the investigation by the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU). Following which he was asked to appear for the investigation on August 3 but he failed to do so. Now, he has again been asked to appear before CIU officials on August 6.

The same report also suggests that Bollywood top actresses like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra could also be summoned by the SIT to record their statements in connection with the fake social media activity. SIT has come across around 100 companies selling fake social media followers and have identified 68 of them, which are involved in selling fake followers and social media activities like retweets, likes, views, subscriptions and comments.

Speaking about the racket Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police Vinay Kumar Chaubey had said, "We have investigated and found as many as 54 firms involved in this racket.
