FLASHBACK 2015: Tweets, trolls & troubles

Twitter saw a lot of activity throughout 2015 – while director Hansal Mehta questioned Shah Rukh Khan’s acting skills, Anushka Sharma became the butt of all jokes when she misspelled the President’s name. Take a look at what happened on the micro-blogging site.

Priyanka Chopra’s ex-secretary Prakash Jaju torments her

In October this year, Priyanka Chopra’s ex-secretary Prakash Jaju alleged that the actress had not cleared his dues and blamed her late father Ashok Chopra for this. In a series of tweets, Jaju lashed out at Priyanka and said that he has been getting threat calls from Chhota Shakeel because of her.

Sonam Kapoor calls meat ban ‘Misogynistic’

When the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) banned meat in Mumbai in September, Sonam Kapoor expressed her displeasure over the ban calling it ‘misogynistic’. Clearly, her language skills weren’t as strong as her fashion sense. Expectedly, she was trolled for the next few days by Twitterati, who couldn’t stop making jokes at her expense.

Hansal Mehta challenges Shah Rukh Khan’s acting skills

Shah Rukh, whose Chak De India completed 8 years in August 2015, took to Twitter to thank the entire crew for the beautiful film. However, Shahid director Hansal Mehta took the opportunity to taunt SRK about how he has now veered towards masala films instead of content-driven ones. While SRK stated that he was “a star co-existing with the actor”, the star’s fans thrashed Hansal for the same.

Kushal Tandon-Ameesha Patel’s pow-wow over National Anthem

This involved a war of words between the Gadar actress and the Bigg Boss 8 contestant. Kushal slammed Ameesha for not standing up in respect of the National Anthem at a movie theatre. A day later, the actress retaliated in a series of tweets where she said she had a ‘girl problem’ and hence didn’t stand up during the anthem. Her tweets were laced with expletives – something that obviously didn’t go down well with Kushal.

Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar get former President’s name wrong

All hell broke loose when Anushka Sharma and Farhan Akhtar couldn’t get former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s name right in their RIP messages on twitter. While Anushka wrote the former President’s name as ‘ABJ Kalam Azad’, Farhan wrote it wrongly as ‘APJ Abdul Kalam Azad’.

Ditto Kapil Sharma who misspelled President Pranab Mukherjee’s name. After the stand-up comedian was invited to Rashtrapati Bhavan by the President, an excited Kapil wrote about it on Twitter – too bad, he got the name wrong.

KRK-Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Hathyar’ war

When Bombay Velvet released, KRK (Kamaal R Khan) claimed that producer-actor Karan Johar had offered him Rs 25 lakh to give his film a 4-star rating. KRK then went on to display messages which he claimed were sent by KJo. Of course, Anurag Kashyap, the director of Bombay Velvet and KJo denied these stories vehemently on Twitter. Next, KRK even claimed that he’ll cut his ‘hathyar’ if Bombay Velvet becomes a hit. Anurag responded by saying that he’ll preserve the ‘hathyar’ in a museum.
