Gangubai Kathiawadi: Alia Bhatt-Starrer's Release Date Announced; Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Magnum Opus To Hit The Theatres On THIS Date
The release date of Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi has been announced. The film will hit theatres on January 6, 2022.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt's upcoming ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is one of the most anticipated movies for obvious reasons. The film, which is based on the life of one of the famous 'madam's from brothels in Mumbai's infamous red light area, Kamathipura, has been in news since its inception. As cinema halls in Maharashtra are reopening from October 22, the makers of the film have announced its release date on social media.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is slated to hit theatres on January 6, 2022. Bhansali Productions shared a poster of the film on Instagram and wrote, “The wait to witness her power, strength & resilience ends. Bringing to you a stem-winding story of #GangubaiKathiawadi on 6th January 2022, in cinemas near you.”
Earlier, it was reported that Bhansali’s directorial might release on OTT platform. However, Pen Studios, which is producing Gangubai Kathiawadi, dismissed rumours about its digital release and issued a statement saying that the movie will premiere in theatres only as it is made for the big screen experience.
Gangubai Kathiawadi marks Alia Bhatt’s first collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film, which is said to be loosely based on S Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, also stars Vijay Raaz and Seema Pahwa in key roles. Ajay Devgn will also be seen playing a significant role in the movie.
Notably, the makers of as many as 14 Bollywood movies, including, Sooryavanshi, 83, Laal Singh Chaddha, Heropanti 2, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Jersey and MayDay among others have announced release dates, making it a booked movie calendar till end of 2022.
