Gangubai Kathiawadi Controversy: Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Seeking Stay On Release Of Alia Bhatt Starrer-Report
Alia Bhatt starrer upcoming film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is embroiled in several controversies. A petition was filed against the movie by a person who claimed to be Gangubai's adopted son. He reportedly moved to court and sought an injunction against the film's producers, Alia Bhatt and authors S Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges, who wrote the book on which the film is based. Now, as per the latest development in this regard, the Supreme Court has reportedly dismissed a plea seeking an injunction on the release of the film.

This decision comes just a day ahead of the film's release tomorrow, February 25. An Etimes TV report stated that a Bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and JK Maheshwari were hearing the appeal filed against the order of the Bombay High Court that refused to stay the release of the film. Senior Advocate Aryama Sundaram, who appeared in the court for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, claimed that the Court was 'dealing with a case where the film has not been seen as yet'. Sundaram was quoted as saying, Censor certificate has been given. So for a person to say that legal right should not be exercised, the person has to show a strong reason.”

He, in fact, asked the petitioner to prove that he is the adopted son of Gangubai. Further, speaking on the claims that Gangubai Kathiawadi shows the Khamatipura area in a bad light, Aryama Sundaram stated, “We don't consider it shameworthy if a woman rises above from this background and does something for the society, it is not to be ashamed of.”

The advocate also rubbished the claims of defamation saying that the alleged adopted son of Gangubai was unaware of the book 'Mafia Queens', which was published 11 years ago and "now when the film is releasing he suddenly becomes aware of it. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Gangubai Kathiawadi is slated to hit the theatres on 24th February 2022. The special screening of the film was held yesterday and it was a star-studded affair with Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor Rekha among others attending the event.
