Gurinder Chadha: AR Rahman Was Not Sure About Composing Music For Partition 1947
At the music launch of her directorial venture Partition 1947, Gurinder Chadha revealed that getting AR Rahman on board was tough as he was sceptical about doing a movie based on politics
Gurinder Chadha, the director of the film Partition 1947, was in Mumbai yesterday to launch the music of the film along with Huma Qureshi and AR Rahman. The filmmaker spoke about the process of directing the film and got emotional while doing so.

For her, the biggest task for the director was getting AR Rahman on board. “I had spoken to him about the film, but he didn’t revert to me for a while. Then when we met in America, I showed him the film and he was quite convinced. He came on board and I am really happy with the kind of music he has made for the film,” said Gurinder.
Talking about the film AR Rahman said: “The film had a few facts that even I wasn’t aware of. When I watched the film, I got convinced to do the project as it has a strong message.” He also went on to say that Gurinder kept on telling him to not make music which is too desi but ultimately they implemented a lot of Indian elements.
While launching the music of the film, Gurinder got extremely emotional and had tears in her eyes. “My family members had gone through a lot during this phase and I never thought that I would make a film on the subject,” she explained.

The trailer of the film also has moments where Jawaharlal Nehru and Edwina Mountbatten are seen getting attracted to each other. “They (Jawarharlal Nehru and Edwina) were quite close to each other. But I did not want to get into the details of it because dwelling too much into that topic would shift the focus of the film,” said Gurinder. Huma Qureshi narrated her experience of working with Gurinder as an incredible one.
The film is set to release on August 18, 2017.
