Despite being one of the most influential families in Bollywood, the family feud between the Deols is known by all. It has been a week that veteran actor Dharmendra took to Instagram and apologised to his second wife Hema Malini, their daughters Esha Deol Takhtani and Ahana Deol Vohra for not reaching out. He did that after celebrating his grandson Karan Deol’s wedding with his first family. Now an old video where the actress and her daughters spoke about him being an absentee father has gone viral on social media.
The three women had opened up about the 87-year-old’s orthodox, patriarchal mindset and how he was never present during their growing up years because of his work commitments. When asked about the importance of having partners that are supportive, Hema had expressed how it is important for making a few decisions. Sharing an example from her personal life, she revealed that Dharmendra never participated in the decision-making, when their daughters were concerned, as he was always occupied with work. Further in the interview, the 74-year-old actress recalled that her husband always wanted to wear salwar kameez, which led to the girls changing out of their regular clothing whenever he came to meet them. Agreeing with her mother, the then 17-year-old Esha has said, “He (Dharmendra) doesn’t like us wearing sleeveless tops and short pants. Whenever he comes home, we wear trousers or salwar kameez.” The daughter went on to express how their mother was their sole source of support.

It is safe to say that these shocking revelations have not gone down well with the netizens. From calling the veteran a red flag to slamming him for ruining the lives of his daughters from his second marriage. One said, “Imagine till this date this man couldn't invite Esha and Ahana to Karan's wedding.” Another said, “I heard even his own daughters don't speak to him. He got them married in arranged marriage styles but for Bobby and Sunny, they were free to do what they wanted. And even him, who converted to another religion just to marry Hema!” Other one said, “With a father like that who is selectively available may be they enjoyed him not being around much. For the unversed, Dharmendra has four kids from his first marriage with Prakash Kaur - sons Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and daughters Vijeeta and Ajeita.
On the work front, he will next be seen in Karan Johar’s directorial comeback Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The trailer of the movie, which was recently released, has received mixed reactions from the audience.
