I Am Director Onir SHOCKED After A Scene Copied In Zoya Akhtar's Made In Heaven; Says, 'Acknowledgement Has Never Been The Strength Of This Industry'
We have seen movies or scenes getting inspired by other films and scenes in the past. However, there is a scene in Zoya Akhtar's Made In Heaven which has a striking similarity with Onir's directorial venture I Am and this was recently pointed out by a casting director named, Nalinii Rathnam. After coming across the tweet, I Am director said 'acknowledgement has been the Industry's weakness. Well, the scene which we are talking about in Made In Heaven and I Am has two gay men in an intimate position in a car when they get interrupted by a few policemen who bribe them and then abuse the lover. Both the scenes have a striking similarity and the casting director shared a video of both the scenes too.

Nalinii took to her Twitter handle and tweeted, "Did the makers of #MadeInHeaven ask/take permission/inform @Onir before lifting this sequence frame by frame from his National Award-winning film #IAM ? Watch!  Common actor in both @PrimeVideoIN." Responding to her, Onir was surprised with the scene but also took a jibe at the industry and its people as he wrote, "I was quite taken aback when I saw that so much of that section of I AM was not only there as content but shot exactly in the same way. But acknowledgement has never been the strength of this industry."

While in another tweet, he shared a story of a critic who reviewed the scene and praised the critic for noticing this when others remained silent, Onir wrote, "And thank you @MurtazaCritic to have written about it when everyone else remained silent."

I Am is a collection of four short stories exploring themes as diverse as motherhood, child abuse, and homosexuality. The film went on to bag the National Award in the Best Feature film category. ALSO READ: Has Zoya Akhtar’s Made In Heaven Season 2 Starring Sobhita Dhulipala, Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh Been Called Off? - EXCLUSIVE
