IMDb Changes Its Rating Method After Noticing Unusual Voting Activity On The Kashmir Files Page; Vivek Agnihotri Says ‘This Is Unethical’
Vivek Agnihotri’s latest release The Kashmir Files starring Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar has been grabbing headlines ever since the film was announced. The movie traces the life of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley in the 1990s. The story which revolves around the exodus and killing of the Pandits is gaining accolades from both the audience and film critics. As we speak of that, IMDB has switched its voting method for the film.

On the Kashmir Files rating page, it is hinted that their rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. And, in order to preserve the accuracy and reliability of the rating system, another weighting calculation has been put into action. The rating for Vivek’s release currently shows 8.3 with `135, 000 votes. 94% audience rated the movie 10 while the rest 4% gave it 1. Explaining the alternative method, IMDb explains it as, “IMDb publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages. The simplest way to explain it is that although we accept and consider all votes received by users, not all votes have the same impact (or ‘weight’) on the final rating. When unusual voting activity is detected, an alternate weighting calculation may be applied in order to preserve the reliability of our system. To ensure that our rating mechanism remains effective, we do not disclose the exact method used to generate the rating.”

A fan shared the details with Vivek Agnihotri on Twitter. The filmmaker replied back and responded, “This is unusual and unethical.”

The Kashmir Files has been attracting controversies one after another. A few days ago, Vivek claimed that the star cast of the film was not invited on The Kapil Sharma Show because it doesn't have big star.

Not to forget. Kangana Ranaut recently slammed Bollywood for their pin-drop silence over the film.
