The world lost an actor par excellence as Irrfan Khan breathed his last on April 29, 2020, in Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, Mumbai. The actor had been battling neuroendocrine tumour since he was diagnosed with it back in 2018. The actor had to be rushed to the ICU of Kokilaben Hospital on 28 April, after he suffered from colon infection. Over the years, Irrfan has not only starred in Bollywood films but has also been a part of Hollywood films such as Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire, Inferno, Jurassic Park, The Amazing Spiderman and more.

Director Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, which also starred Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Anil Kapoor among others won eight Academy Awards in 2009, seven BAFTAs, five Critics’ Choice Awards and four Golden Globes. Irrfan had played the role of a police inspector in Slumdog Millionaire. It was a huge victory for every member associated with the film as it bagged four Golden Globe awards -Best Motion Picture-Drama, Best Director award for Danny Boyle and Best Screenplay, and Best Original Music Score.

Irrfan Khan’s last rites took place today afternoon. A statement released by his family said, "Irrfan was buried at the Versova kabrastan in Mumbai at 3 pm this afternoon soon after the news of his passing away was announced. In presence were his family, close relatives, and friends. Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away. We pray for his peace and we hope he's in a better place today. He was strong in his fight, and we all have to be strong too in this loss."
