Dunno why I suspected that Irrfan Khan is not well when I met him in November '17 when his neuroendocrine cancer had not yet come to the fore
Well, the marvellous actor Irrfan Khan was standing with his back facing me as I entered the hall (in Novotel, Juhu) where I was supposed to interview him. The month was November and the year, 2017. I tapped his shoulder and he looked back and smiled. But believe it or not, I didn't have a smile on my face. I was just shocked to see him so thin. I knew he had lost at least 5-6 kg if not more (especially on his waist and legs) and I asked him: 'Sir, are you fine?' He replied: 'Yes, what happened?'
I told him that 'he had lost too much weight'. He shrugged it off and said that 'it was for a role'. I don't know which role he was talking about but somehow I was not fully convinced with his answer.
After the interview, his weight loss was still playing on my mind. And I couldn't forget it whenever I thought of him. And then, the shocking news of his neuroendocrine cancer burst into our faces in March 2018. Lekin uske pehle se hi, buzz was that he's suffering from a serious illness.
Why is destiny so cruel? His mother passed away just 4 days back (on Saturday). And now, he himself! Where have we reached? Why is God taking so many harsh decisions, nowadays?
