Is Shahid Kapoor’s Dingko Singh Biopic Shelved? Director Says, “No, We Are Just On Hold”- EXCLUSIVE
Shahid Kapoor is on cloud nine post the super success of Kabir Singh. It’s a given that he’s taking his own sweet time on finalizing his next big project. So, the Dingko Singh biopic is on hold for now and we have a confirmation from the filmmaker
Since Saturday we have been hearing that Shahid Kapoor has pulled out of Raja Krishna Menon’s Dingko Singh biopic. It came as a surprise to us considering how the actor was buoyant about this project. We sent a text to Shahid and Menon promptly but both didn’t revert back the same day. We tried getting in touch with Shahid yesterday through his publicist who did not get back with any reply from his side.
Menon however called us this morning and said that he can talk right now; he said that he could not respond earlier since he was busy with a Netflix project titled Upstarts which he is helming as a producer. The Airlift director told us that (contrary to reports in a website), the Dingko Singh biopic is not shelved. We told him point blank that we had heard that Shahid has pulled out.
However, the filmmaker told us, “We are both committed to this movie. It’s not shelved, neither am I looking for any other actor. It’s just that we are on hold.”
When asked the reason for the delay, Menon explained, “We were supposed to start in early 2019, but could not complete the script in all respects. This, in turn, delayed the project. Now, Shahid Kapoor has given a mega hit Kabir Singh and to be honest he wants to dwell a little deeper on which film he should take up next. But this does not mean that he is not doing the Dingko Singh biopic with me. I repeat, it’s not shelved. We shall go with it, but yes, not this year.”
So that’s that! This is the latest on the Dingko Singh biopic.
