Most of the celebrities, before entering Bollywood, have gone through their fair share of struggles, ups and downs and a hell lot of auditions. A lot of them have also had some unpleasant experiences; be it the casting couch or being asked to go under modifications. Something similar is the case of Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez, who in a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, revealed how a couple of industry people asked her to change her name to Muskaan because Jacqueline was a bit too western for the Indian film industry.
That wasn’t it as the Kick actress was also asked to get a nose job done; however, she refrained and decided to be herself. Fortunately, things worked for Jacqueline and here she is today. The actress said, “I was told, ‘Do a nose job’, ‘Change your name’. So many people! In that moment, I thought, ‘Is it really needed?’ I decided to just be me. I was quite calm and cool and collected about it, and then things worked out for me.”
She added, “I was told, ‘Change your name to Muskaan.’ I remember these suggestions. My agency also thought, ‘Should we change her name? Jacqueline Fernandez is very Western. How do we crack the industry?’ Then they were like, ‘Maybe we should just go with her name and just see where that goes.’” The actress added that she was given some ‘weird’ advice like people asking her to make her eyebrows darker; however, she chose to stay how she was. Jacqueline’s accent, too, was under the radar and certain people accused her of trying too hard to be Indian.
She was quoted saying, “I felt really offended by this. I came for a Diwali party once in a really traditional outfit. Three of my actor friends were like, ‘Why are you wearing a saree? Why are you trying so hard? You are not Indian!’”
On the work front, Jacqueline Fernandez was last seen in Netflix’s Drive alongside Sushant Singh Rajput and she is currently shooting for a Holi special song with Bigg Boss 13 runner up Asim Riaz.
