Jamia Millia Protests: #ShameOnBollywood Trends As Twitterverse Stands Divided

Parineeti Chopra, Vicky Kaushal, Ayushmann Khurrana, and others took to social media and condemned the violent protests in Delhi’s Jamia Milia Islamia University. Now, #ShameOnBollywood is trending on Twitter for two reasons, first as a section of Twitterati slam big stars who chose to remain silent on the issue, and the other half slamming celebs supporting the students and overlooking their actions

Jamia Millia Protests: #ShameOnBollywood Trends As Twitterverse Stands Divided
Several protests have erupted across the nation against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) that was passed into an act. A protest was also organized by the students of Jamia Milia Islamia, which later turned into violent clashes between the protesters and the Delhi Police. A lot of people took to their social media, raising concerns and slamming the Delhi Police.  The latter allegedly used tear gas and batons in order to disperse the crowd. Several Bollywood celebrities like Parineeti Chopra, Ayushmann Khurrana, Dia Mirza, Pooja Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal and others expressed their rage condemning the Jamia violence on social media.

Now, #ShameOnBollywood is trending on Twitter as the Twitterverse is divided into two over the reactions of the Bollywood stars. There are two sides to this hashtag- first, a section of Twitterati who are absolutely disappointed with the big names of Bollywood, who chose to remain silent on the issue and haven’t yet expressed their views, even though the younger celebs did. Another section trend the hashtag slamming Bollywood stars such as Prineeti Chopra, Vicky Kaushal for supporting the students of Jamia Milia and overlooking their actions. While one tweet read, “Why our celebrities, who the people of the country venerate God-like, choose to remain silent on important national issues. #ShameonBollywood,” another read, “And burning of public property, stonning, voilence is fine for u ppl.. Shame on u. #ShameonBollywood.. Goons let them burn their houses.. Shameless...”

The Citizenship Amendment Act grants Indian citizenship to all the Hindu immigrants in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
