Javed Akhtar On His FAILED Marriage With Honey Irani, Reveals He Became ‘A Very Nasty Man’ Due To His Addiction To Alcohol
Javed Akhtar opened up about his first marriage with Honey Irani and how that relationship failed because of his addiction to alcohol
Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar often leaves the audience mesmerised with his beautifully penned dialogues and songs. Over the years, he has never shied away from talking about his personal and professional achievements as well as setbacks. While is currently enjoying marital bliss with actress Shabana Azmi, he recently opened up about his first failed marriage with Honey Irani. Having tied the knot in 1972, they parted ways in 1984, around 11 years after tying the knot. They share two kids Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar.
During his interview with Mojo Story, the 79-year-old opened up about his first failed marriage with Honey Irani. Blaming alcoholism, he recalled that all the culture he learned in Lucknow, didn’t allow him to use foul language. This led to him compressing all the bitterness within him. The barriers would break once he would drink. He went on to state that had he been sober and a responsible person, his relationship with Irani would have been different. Recalling the same, quoted by the Free Press Journal, Javed Akhtar added, “I would become a very nasty man and would use foul language. I used to become another person. It was unhealthy, irrational and causing problem to many people. It impacted my marriage with Honey. If I was a sober and responsible person, the story would have been different.” The veteran stated that he started drinking at the age of 20-21 and stopped at 42. For the unversed, Irani maintains a cordial relationship with Akhtar and his wife Shabana Azmi. The entire family, along with their kids and grandkids are often spotted together during family gatherings.
