Javed Akhtar On Why He Filed A Defamation Suit Against Kangana Ranaut: ‘I Felt Humiliated, It Was Getting Bigger And More Embarrassing’
Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut have been involved in an ugly spat ever since the lyricist filed a defamation suit against the actress. In 2020, Akhtar filed a complaint against the actress alleging that she defamed him in an interview given to a news channel. He claimed that Kangana dragged his name unnecessarily while referring to a 'coterie' existing in Bollywood, following actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death. Javed also moved an application before a court for issuing a non-bailable warrant against Kangana. Now Akhtar has revealed why he filed a defamation suit against Kangana.

On Wednesday, the poet-lyricist appeared before a magistrate and said he felt humiliated after Kangana said in an interview that he threatened to sabotage her career. Javed was quoted saying, “In the magazine interview, she only said I had threatened her, but I did not react to it. She had not said that I threatened her by saying that she would have to commit suicide. But in a television interview in July 2020 she improvised and as everyone was speaking about suicide, she said all this,” he said. “This was not earlier. Suicide had become a buzz word after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and she used it to make an allegation that I was from some suicide brigade and that I was forcing her to commit suicide. If it was so, she would have mentioned it in her first statement in the magazine.” ALSO READ: Kangana Ranaut-Javed Akhtar Defamation CASE: Actress Requests Mumbai Court To Record The Statement Of Her Sister Rangoli Chandel

He went on to share his ordeal saying that he got the calls from people in Lucknow, who told him that they didn’t expect this from him. “I was very upset and may have chosen to ignore it. We are lazy people who are concerned with the creative field. It took me 4-5 months to file this case as I saw that it was not going away. I was under tremendous pressure. I was feeling humiliated. People did not let me forget it, and it was getting bigger and more and more embarrassing, so I had to file this complaint,” Akhtar further explained.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Kangana alleged that after Sushant died, Javed called her to his house and told her that Rakesh Roshan and his family are very big people and if she did not apologise to them, they will put her in jail. Not just that, the Queen actress even accused Javed of saying she would lead to a path of destruction and that she will commit suicide.

As per the latest reports, Javed will be cross-examined by Kangana’s lawyer on June 12.
