Jersey: Sharad Kelkar Denies Being A Part Of The Shahid Kapoor-Mrunal Thakur Starrer-EXCLUSIVE
The 2019 Telugu sports-drama, Jersey, featuring Nani and Shraddha Srinath and helmed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, was an instant success on its release. The story of Arjun, played by Nani, a talented but failed cricketer who decides to return to cricket in his mid-30s, driven by the desire to represent the Indian Cricket Team, and fulfil his son's wish for a jersey as a gift, touched several hearts. Even though the film was released in Telugu, it gathered success all over India.

Shortly after the film’s success, Gowtam announced that the film was being remade in Hindi with the same name. Shahid Kapoor, who was riding high on the success of Kabir Singh, another remake of the South film Arjun Reddy, was cast to step into Nani’s shoes as Arjun, while the search for the leading lady was concluded on Mrunal Thakur, who replaced Rashmika Mandanna when she opted out of the film.

Shahid’s father Pankaj Kapur also joined the film’s cast later on as Arjun’s coach, while several reports online also suggested that Laxmii actor Sharad Kelkar is also a part of the film.

However, in an exclusive conversation with Spotboye.com, Sharad has denied any association with the film. “I know it’s there online, even on IMDb, and I don’t know who put this story out, but I am not a part of Jersey. I have a close friend who is working on that film, but I am not. I keep on asking him jokingly when am I going to shoot for my part in his film,” he laughs.

The Telugu original, Jersey went on to win two National Awards at the 67th National Film Awards, earlier this year, including Best Feature Film In Telugu. The shoot of the Hindi remake was wrapped up in December last year and the film is eyeing a Diwali theatrical release on November 5 this year.
