Juhi Chawla On Rejecting Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Raja Hindustani, ‘I Am Responsible For Karisma Kapoor’s Stardom’
Juhi Chawla jokes how she is responsible for Karisma Kapoor’s stardom because she rejected two big films like Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Raja Hindustani
Back in the time, Karisma Kapoor was among one of the most successful and sought-after actresses. Well, her charm and beauty are still very much intact and enough to get us drooling. Among many others, Raja Hindustani and Dil Toh Pagal Hai are two of the Karisma Kapoor films that are absolute classics and still watched by a lot of us. However, did you know that not Karisma but Juhi Chawla was the first choice for both of these films? Yes! In a recent conversation with Rajeev Masand, Juhi opened up on letting go such biggies and joked how she is responsible for Karisma Kapoor’s stardom.
During the interview, Juhi called her ‘pig-headed’ and it was her ego that came her way. “I became pig-headed. I suddenly thought the industry will stop if I don’t work. I got some amazing chances to work in films, but my ego came in the way. I didn’t do some films, which I could have done, which may have been harder work and more competitive. I just didn’t do them because I wanted the easy stuff and I wanted to work with people I was comfortable with. I didn’t break barriers,” said the actress.
Further, Juhi stated how two movies that she rejected – Dil To Pagal Hai, Raja Hindustani – turned out to be blockbusters. “I made stars out of everybody else,” she added. Both these biggies landed in Karisma’s kitty, in fact, DTPH even got her a National Award, whereas Raja Hindustani is still considered iconic. Upon being asked if she contributed to Karisma’s career, Juhi joked, “Absolutely. I am responsible for her stardom.”
Juhi has been a part of several blockbusters like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Darr, Yes Boss and Ishq among others. As for her next, Juhi will be seen opposite Rishi Kapoor in Sharmaji Namkeen.
