Kareena Kapoor Khan Breaks Her Silence On Reports That Said She Demanded Rs 12 Crore To Play Sita In Ramayana

The topic of pay parity is often seen cropping up when a lead actress happens to ask a whopping amount for her work. Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is currently in the Maldives with her family, was in the headlines for asking Rs. 12 crore for a film. Just to give you a gist, the actress was reportedly offered a role of Sita in an upcoming film based on the line of Hindu mythology, Ramayana. Though the news made rounds on the internet, the actress chose to remain mum.
Recently when the topic of the actress asking for a big moolah was highlighted at an NDTV interview, she shook her head. The anchor asked, “What next for Kareena Kapoor Khan? You have a film with Aamir Khan later this year, there was talk that you were getting ₹12 crore, you were asking for ₹12 crore, and other actresses came out in support of you, but I think that was fake news.” Bebo, reacting to it without being in a rush to respond, just shook her head, and said, “Yeah, yeah...”
Kareena was criticized for hurting religious sentiment by hiking her fees by the netizens on the microblogging site, Twitter. Coming in support of her were actresses, Taapsee Pannu, Pooja Hegde and Priyamani. As reported in Bollywood Hungama, while actresses asking for a fee hike are criticized, actors asking for the same, is observed as the sign of success.
Taapsee had said, “You'll always read about this problem of hiked salaries with women. But why not? She is one of the biggest female superstars we have in the country. If she commands a certain salary for her time, it's her job. Do you think any other mythological characters that are played by men, do you think they do it for free? I don't think so.”
As per reports in Bollywood Hungama, Bebo had hiked her fees from Rs. 6-8 crore to Rs.12 crore for Sita. Also, the project was said to take a good 8-10 months of the actor’s work schedule.
Kareena Kapoor has Laal Singh Chaddha to release in December 2021. She also has the sequel of Veere Di Wedding and Hansal Mehta’s next in her kitty.
