Veteran Marathi theatre artist and singer Kirti Shiledar breathed her last on Saturday, 22nd January at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. She was 70. The cause of her death is not known. As soon as the news of her demise broke out, heartfelt tributes started pouring in from all corners on social media. Kirti has been trending on the micro-blogging site with netizens and her fans mourning the sad demise. Many users said that her tragic death has left a huge void in the Sangeet Natak Industry that can never be filled.

#kirtishiledar has been trending on Twitter with users paying their last respects to Kirti. One emotional fan tweeted, “#KirtiShiledar ji’s voice was one of the first memories of music I have because my father was an ardent fan. I usually woke up to her and Bhimsen ji’s recordings playing in our house.”
Another said, “Big loss to the Sangeet Natak industry of Maharashtra Kirti Shiledar Ji left us ! all we have is her art and theatre craft May her soul rest in peace.#Kirtishiledar.”








Kirti, who had acted in various traditional Marathi musicals like Sangeet Saubhadra, Yayati and Devyani, was best known for Swarsamradhini, which was based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. She was also remembered for her role of Naina, which was based on Eliza Doolittle.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Kirti Shiledar had once said, “I first performed on stage when I was in my mother’s womb.” 

Her parents, Jayaram and Jayamala Shiledar, who was regarded as the illustrious couple in Marathi musical theatre, had reportedly founded the Marathi Rangbhumi Natak Company.
