Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s tragic demise has sent a shockwave across the entire nation. The Nightingale Of India died at the age of 92 at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai. Mangeshkar had tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms on January 8 and was undergoing treatment at the hospital. On Saturday, her condition deteriorated and she was put on ventilator support. Now, her doctor Pratit Samdani, who was treating her at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, has issued a statement revealing that Lata died due to multiple organ failure.

While speaking to the media, Pratit Samdani said the veteran singer passed away after 28 days of hospitalization while undergoing post-COVID treatment. Mangeshkar tested positive for the deadly virus and was hospitalized on January 11. Breach Candy Hospital issues a statement on Twitter saying Lata Mangeshkar died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post-Covid 19.

The statement read, “It is with profound grief that we announce the sad demise of Lata Mangeshkar at 8:12 AM. She has died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post-COVID19.”



Lata Mangeshkar’s body is to be taken to Shivaji Park for people to pay homage. Her sad demise was condoled by PM Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, V Muraleedharan, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari among others. 
Paying his last respects, Modi tweeted, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled.
