Lata Mangeshkar’s Ashes Immersed In The Ganga River At Varanasi By Her Family Members-Report
India’s Nightingale and legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar left for her heavenly abode on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92. The Bharat Ratna singer breathed her last in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to multiple organ failures. Her ashes were reportedly immersed in the Ganga River in Varanasi by her family members. Late singer’s sister Usha Mangeshkar reached the river with urn containing the ashes.

As per Etimes TV report, the family members took a boat to Ahilyabai Ghat from Khidkiya Ghat. Usha Mangeshkar along with other family members performed the Vedic rituals at the ghat, under the instruction of the priest Shrikant Pathak. Later the ashes were submerged into the mainstream of the Ganga River. Recognized for her beautiful and soulful voice, the late singer’s admirers also paid tributes to her at the ghat. After immersing her ashes into the holy river, and performing Pooja at Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple, the family returned to Mumbai.

According to reports, following the tradition Lata Mangeshkar’s family kept her ashes in three separate pots. Last month, her family had performed the last rituals on the bank of the Godavari in Nashik and immersed her ashes in Ramkund. Usha Mangeshkar along with her nephew Adinath Mangeshkar was also present there at the time of rituals.


One of the most loved singers in Hindi cinema, Late Mangeshkar had a career spanning decades. The iconic singer not just ruled Bollywood but also created iconic music in many other different languages including Marathi, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Tamil, and Bengali.
