Mithun Chakraborty’s Father Passes Away In Mumbai; Actor Struggles To Get Back From Bengaluru For Last Rites Due To Lockdown

Mithun Chakraborty’s father Basantakumar Chakraborty passed away last evening in Mumbai. Currently, the actor is struggling to get back in town from Bengaluru where he is stuck due to Coronavirus lockdown.

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty’s father Basantakumar Chakraborty left for heavenly abode yesterday i.e. on April 21. Aged 95 when he breathed his last, Basantakumar was suffering from health issues and passed away due to renal failure in Mumbai. His last rites are yet to take place, as unfortunately, Mithun is out of Maharashtra. The actor was in Bengaluru for a shoot and got stuck there post the lockdown was announced. As per reports in TOI, the veteran actor is trying to get back to the city for the last rites.

Currently taking the lead in absence of his father is his son Mimoh Chakraborty, who is in Mumbai with the family. Basantakumar worked at Calcutta Telephones and news of his demise came to light after actress Rituparna Sengupta lent her heartfelt condolence to Mithun and his family in her tweet. Her Tweet read, “My deep condolences on the sudden demise of your father, Mithun Da. Stay strong & may his soul rest in peace forever” 

Currently there are no reports of the actor reaching Mumbai so far.

Mithun who’s real name is Gouranga Chakraborty was sent to Mumbai by his father to keep him away from Naxalite activity. Later Mithun joined Film and Television Institute of India and pursued his career in acting. Though his father was not in favour of this career choice of his son, the rest of his family members stood by him.
