The great musician, Mohammed Khayyam Hashmi, passed away last night. He was 92. Many well known celebrities from the film and music industry have paid their tribute to the late musician

Veteran Music director Mohammed Zahur Khayyam Hashmi passed away last night in Mumbai at 9.30 pm. The legendary musician was 92. Khayyam had been in a critical condition and had been admitted  in Sujay Hospital in Mumbai and while there was a very little chance of his survival, his end however was peaceful. With such a huge contribution to the film and music industry, the sad news of his sudden demise has left everyone shocked. The late music director, who started his career at the age of 17 in the city of Ludhiana, had a career span of four decades.

The legendary Bollywood music composer Khayyam was known lovingly for his work in films such as Umrao Jaan and Kabhie Kabhie. Many well- known celebrities from the film and music industry and famous personalities  paid their tributes to the late musician. Amitabh Bachchan, A. R Rahman, Vishal Dadlani, Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Lata Mangeshkar and others sent in their condolences. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also taken to Twitter and expressed his sadness at the legend’s demise.  Lata Mangeshkar posted multiple tweets and wrote an emotional note for the late music composer.






















Winner of  the Padma Bhushan, Khayyam had several prestigious awards to his name, including the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. He had also won three Filmfare Awards for Best Music in 1977 for Kabhi Kabhie and 1982 for Umrao Jaan.
