NCW Issues Notice To Swara Bhasker For Revealing The Identity Of Hathras Gang Rape Victim; Demand Immediate Removal Of Posts
After the news of the Hathras gang rape has hit headlines, it has left the country in a state of anger and shock. The National Commission for Women took informed on social media that they have served notices to actor Swara Bhasker and two others for allegedly revealing the identity of the Hathras gang-rape victim. The NCW issued notices to Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and actor Swara Bhasker and also directed them to immediately remove posts made by them on their respective social media handles.

On their official and verified Twitter handle, the NCW wrote, “@NCWIndia has served notices to @amitmalviya @digvijaya_28 & @ReallySwara seeking explanation on their #Twitter posts revealing the identity of the #Hathras vicitm along with a direction to remove these posts immediately & to refrain from sharing such posts in future @sharmarekha.”

The NCW mentioned that they have served notices to Swara Bhasker and two others seeking explanation on their Twitter posts for allegedly revealing the identity of the 19-year-old Hathras victim. Apart from directing the immediate removal of the posts, the NCW also asked them to refrain from sharing such posts in future.  According to the law, the Disclosure of the identity of a victim of certain offences are barred under IPC Section 228(A). As per the law, whoever is found to have flouted it can be punished with imprisonment extending up to two years, and will also be liable to fine.

Meanwhile, speaking of the post made by Malviya on Friday, he tweeted a 48-second (now-deleted) video clip where the woman could be seen lying on the ground, her face clearly visible. Congress leader Singh’s tweet is also no longer available. Actor Swara Bhasker’s tweet saw her along with others holding some placards carrying the victim’s photograph in a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, which is now deleted.
