Neena Gupta Recalls Being Verbally Abused By A Director; Says, ‘Gave Me Maa-Behen Ki Gaali In Front Of Everybody, I Started Crying’
Veteran actress Neena Gupta has impressed the audience with her acting chops. With movies like Badhaai Ho, Subh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Goodbye and Uunchai among many others, under her belt she has become one of the most-sought after actress in Bollywood. However, this was not always the case. During a recent interview, she opened up about the time when she was verbally abused by a director in the 80s.

During a recent interaction with Bollywood Bubble, the 63-year-old actress recalled a time when she had to work in a toxic environment. She revealed that she was shooting for a film, where she was only had two to three dialogues. However, even those dialogues were cut from the scene. When she went to ask the director about it, she recalled being verbally abused in front of everyone. ALSO READ: OMG! Quoted by Indian Express, she said, “I was doing a film and I had a very small role in it. I just had 2-3 dialogues in a scene. I was in a larger group. On the day of the shoot, those dialogues were also cut. I had no role left. I went up to the director and said ‘I just had two lines and you’ve cut those as well.’ He gave me maa-behen ki gaali in front of everybody. Vinod Khanna was there, Juhi (Chawla), everybody and I just started crying because he abused me in front of everyone.”

The actress proceeded to laugh off the incident and assure that this kind of work culture is not practiced today. She said, “I don’t think this happens today, or maybe it happens but I am not in the same position. For the unversed, after being out of work and not getting any roles in 2017, Neena Gupta had taken to her official Instagram handle to ask for a job. Sharing her short bio-data, she had written, “I live in Mumbai and working am a good actor looking for good parts to play.” After the post, she was seen in many commendable movies that had gone on to be hits. Her recent movies are being loved by the audience.
