Veteran actor Rajeev Mehta became a household name after he starred in serials like Khichdi and Baa Bahu Aur Baby. he tickled everyone’s funnybone with his unique characters. He recently returned to the big screen by reprising his role of Praful in Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan released in 2023. For those who don’t know, the movie was a sequel to Khichdi: The Movie, which was released in 2010. The movie also starred Supriya Pathak Kapur, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, and Jamnadas Majethia in pivotal roles.
Despite bringing nostalgia as the Khichdi actors reprised their roles again for Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan, the movie failed to create a buzz. It did not do well at the box office. Now the 73-year-old actor has spoken about the same. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he expressed that there were no stars in the film. Mehta stated that in current times, the audience goes to the theatre to watch stars and not a content-driven film.
Quoted by the Free Press Journal, he stated, “Today, a viewer spends money to watch a film in a theatre for a star. Occasionally there could be a good film doing well but I have realized that the success of a film and the content are never interrelated.”
Mehta went on to reveal that he didn’t find Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, and Deepika Padukone starrer Pathaan ‘extraordinary.’ However, the movie did great business at the box office. On the other hand, loved watching Manoj Bajpayee’s Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. He added, “On the other hand, I watched Manoj Bajpayee’s film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai and I loved it. Manoj is again an underrated actor, who is getting his due now.”
For the unversed, Pathan was directed by Siddharth Anand. The movie marked the return of Shah Rukh Khan to the big screen after a hiatus of a few years. The spy thriller actioner became the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2023.
