OTT Platform Approaches Brahmastra Makers For Direct-To-Web Release; Karan Johar Shows No Interest – Reports
In 2014, Ayan Mukerji had made the official announcement of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra. Yes, it’s been 6 years since the announcement was made but the release of the film keeps getting delayed for one or the other reason. Had COVID-19 pandemic not hit the world, Brahmastra was gearing up for December 4 release, this year. But it seems like OTT platforms are keen on streaming the film on their digital platform. If latest reports are anything to go by Disney+Hotstar has asked Fox Star Studios if the makers can approve the direct-to-web release of Brahmastra.

According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, Karan Johar has declined the offer after Disney+Hotstar asked Fox Star Studios if they can hand over Brahmastra for their streaming platform. A source close to the makers revealed to the portal, “Disney+ Hotstar has now asked Fox Star Studios if they can hand over Brahmastra for their streaming platform. What it means is, Disney+ Hotstar wants Brahmastra to bypass theatrical release and arrive on its platform directly.

“They feel Brahmastra is a keenly awaited biggie and if it gets premiered on their platform, it’ll fetch them record streams. Producer Karan Johar, however, has not shown interest. He believes that the VFX heavy, grand film would be best enjoyed in cinemas,” added the source.

Speaking about the fate of 2nd and 3rd trilogy, the source further added, “As of now, there are no talks on the Brahmastra sequels. All the efforts of Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios are on completing the first part. The shoot of the film is to get over this month after which the team will fully concentrate on the post-production. Though Fox Star Studios is exiting the business, the upcoming parts might still be made. Karan Johar is looking forward to the response to the first part. If it emerges a success, he’ll go ahead with the trilogy as planned but maybe with some other studio.” (ALSO READ: Brahmastra UPDATE: Ranbir Kapoor And Alia Bhatt To Work On Double Shifts From October? - Reports)
