Filmmaker Mahmood Farooqi (43) has been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly raping a 35-year-old American woman.
Farooqi who co-directed the 2010 film Peepli Live with his wife Anusha Rizvi, has been sent to judicial custody for six days.
The woman, a 35-year-old American student, had come to India for some research in March. She had lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police on Friday following which the accused was called in for questioning yesterday and put behind bars.
