Police Deployed Outside Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat As His Online Gaming Ad Sparks Protest-REPORTS
The protesters expressed their concerns against online gaming apps and opined that these platforms have corrupted the youth and misguided them, leading to financial loss
Mumbai police on Saturday afternoon deployed outside Shah Rukh Khan’s residence - ‘Mannat’ after a group of people gathered to protest against the actor for endorsing online gaming apps. The latest reports also suggest that the police have detained 4-5 people.
The protest was led by the Untouch Youth Foundation against online gaming apps and portals like Junglee Rummy, Zupee, and others. The protesters expressed their concerns against online gaming apps and opined that these platforms have corrupted the youth and misguided them, leading to financial loss. For those unaware, Shah Rukh Khan endorses an online rummy platform A23 Games, and he has even shot a promo for the app in which the actor can be heard saying, "Chalo Saath Khelein."
A Free Press Journal quoted the organization and issued an official statement explaining the reason behind the protest. "Famous actors and actresses work in these advertisements and they are working towards misguiding society. The protest will be held outside Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat bungalow on behalf of Untouch India Foundation," the statement read.
President of Untouch India Foundation, Krishchandra Adal, said, "The new generation is involved in playing Junglee rummy. If someone is playing Junglee rummy or gambling outside, the police arrest them, but big Bollywood stars promoting online games are misleading the young generation. The Bollywood stars also know it is wrong, but they are getting money so they are promoting them. We make these stars famous by watching their movies and spending our money on them. We demand these advertisements to stop. These apps are illegal, we can not find them on Google, but these apps are uploaded on private websites." ALSO READ | DID YOU KNOW? Actors like Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Prakash Raj, Annu Kapoor, Rana Daggubati and others have also been named for endorsing online gaming portals. Shah Rukh Khan, on the work front, will soon be seen in Atlee's actioner, Jawan. The movie will be released in cinemas on September 7.
