Priyanka Chopra Explains Why She Started And Stopped Endorsing Fairness Products, 'My Punjabi Family Would Call Me Kaali' - Throwback VIDEO
After the death of George Floyd, people all around the world have been demanding justice for him, and have been supporting #BlackLivesMatter movement. Celebrities from all across the world also showed their support to this movement, joining the fight against racism. Among Bollywood celebrities, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and many others came out in support of the movement, but it backfired on them as people called them out. Priyanka Chopra especially faced extreme backlash for protesting against racism while having endorsed skin lightening products in the past. We came across a throwback video, where Priyanka Chopra explained why she stopped endorsing fairness products.

In an old interview with NDTV, Priyanka Chopra was asked what she feels about endorsing fairness products? Priyanka replied she felt really bad about it because she is dusky herself. She then says all her cousins were fair-skinned but she was the one who was dusky because her dad was dusky. "Just for fun, my Punjabi family would call me 'kaali, kaali'." Priyanka further said, "At 13, I wanted to put fairness creams and wanted my complexion changed." She then says she did endorse a fairness product for about a year. However, later she felt like she looks pretty alright and did not want to do this. “Then I didn't do it, but I was also finding my ground that time as I was 21 or 22 years old,” she said.

Priyanka Chopra was then asked if she would now endorse fairness creams, and she said no, she won't. "I have been offered many times, but I said no to them."

However, the endorsement of fairness creams isn’t the only reason why Netizens are miffed with Priyanka Chopra’s support to #BlackLivesMatter. Apart from the whole fairness cream issue, people also pointed out her selective outrage, and how she did not speak up for minorities and migrants in her own country.
